Nutrition and Brain Fog: What’s the Connection?

Some days, it feels as though our minds simply aren’t responding as easily as they usually do. We struggle to find the right word, lose track of a conversation, read the same email several times before understanding it, or jump from one task to another without being able to fully concentrate. This experience is commonly known as brain fog.

Your mind does not function in isolation

Our ability to concentrate does not depend solely on willpower. Sleep, stress, hydration, physical activity, recovery, and nutrition all influence how we feel and function each day.

That is why, when mental clarity begins to fade, the question should not always be, How can I force myself to focus? Sometimes, it may be more helpful to ask: What does my body need right now?

There is no single food that can instantly eliminate brain fog. The relationship between nutrition and cognitive function is far more complex. What we eat becomes part of a broader pattern built over days and weeks.

For example, going many hours without eating, relying frequently on products high in added sugar, or following a diet with little variety does not provide the same nutritional foundation as eating a diverse range of nutrient-rich foods.

What your body needs to function well

The body requires a wide variety of nutrients to perform its essential functions. The brain and nervous system depend on numerous processes that require different nutritional components:

  • Protein provides amino acids, which contribute to the production of many essential molecules in the body.
  • Fats form part of our cellular structure, while certain fatty acids are important components of the nervous system.
  • Vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, iron, zinc, and magnesium, support processes related to metabolism and the body’s normal functioning.
  • Fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based foods provide a broad variety of bioactive compounds.

This does not mean that one particular food can suddenly make you think more clearly. The key lies in the overall pattern: a balanced and varied diet gives the body different nutritional tools to carry out its many functions.

When brain fog persists

Brain fog can appear for many reasons. A poor night’s sleep, a stressful week, insufficient recovery, dehydration, or an excessively demanding routine can all affect our ability to feel mentally present.

Certain health conditions can also cause concentration difficulties or cognitive changes.

If brain fog becomes frequent, intense, or persistent, it is important not to assume that changing your diet alone will resolve it. Consider seeking an evaluation from a qualified healthcare professional.

Wellness is built through multiple factors

The answer may not be a supplement, a beverage, or a so-called “miracle” food. In many cases, wellness is built through several interconnected factors: sleeping well, staying physically active, allowing time for recovery, remaining hydrated, managing stress, and eating a varied, nutrient-dense diet.

Mental clarity does not depend on one habit alone. However, each habit can help create better conditions for the body and mind to function at their best.

At TEVA Wellness & Lifestyle, we believe in supporting you as you build sustainable habits that care for your body and mind as what they truly are: one interconnected system.

The next time your mind feels as though it is running at half speed, pause before searching for a quick solution. Notice how you feel and ask yourself: How have I been sleeping? What have my stress levels been like? Have I been drinking enough water? Have I allowed myself to recover? What has my nutrition looked like over the past few days?

Sometimes, feeling better does not require pushing ourselves harder. It requires understanding what we truly need.

Operations and Performance Manager

Daniel Peralta Delgado

Behind every great training experience is someone setting the standard. At TEVA, that person is Daniel.

Daniel leads Operations and Performance, bringing experience from prestigious fitness clubs across Colombia, Australia and Canada. He holds a master’s degree in Fitness and Health Promotion and has trained in strength, endurance, nutrition, sleep and leadership. He works closely with TEVA’s trainers to develop their skills and ensure members receive knowledgeable guidance shaped around their individual goals.

His understanding of the body is personal as well as professional. After an illness left him in bed for six months, Daniel had to rebuild his own strength. That experience changed how he sees fitness: what your body can do matters more than how it looks.

He has since completed six Ironman 70.3 races, eleven marathons and twenty-three half marathons. Daniel knows what it takes to pursue an ambitious goal, and he knows that progress depends on consistency, a thoughtful plan and the right balance between training and recovery.

TEVA members have direct access to Daniel’s expertise when they are considering a challenge such as an Ironman, marathon or HYROX. He can help them assess where they are now and develop a personalised performance strategy around their ability, schedule and goals. It is an opportunity to plan with someone who has lived the preparation, the setbacks and the finish lines himself.

You do not need to be an endurance athlete to benefit from his leadership. Whether your goal is to build strength, return to exercise or feel more capable in your body, Daniel helps ensure the team supporting you has the knowledge and care to help you move forward.

Physical Therapist

Amaya Mantilla

Amaya is a physical therapist specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Her expertise allows her to design highly personalized training programs for people with current injuries, a history of injuries, or physical limitations, helping them build strength without ignoring what their body needs.

For three years, Amaya was the “secret weapon” behind the most elite division of the Navy, making sure its members stayed in peak physical condition at all times. In an environment where the body must perform at the highest level, she combined injury prevention, rehabilitation, and physical preparation to keep them ready for any challenge.

Today she applies that same precision and attention to every client at TEVA. Amaya knows when to challenge the body, when to modify a movement, and how to build strength without letting an injury define the entire training experience.

Her sweet, gentle appearance can be deceiving. Behind it is a demanding, highly observant professional who will take care of you — but will also make you work.

She’s an excellent choice for those looking to regain confidence in their body, return to training after an injury, or follow a program designed specifically for their physical condition.
