Heat That Heals: From Ancient Rituals to Modern Longevity

At Teva, we believe in rituals that stand the test of time. Few practices are as simple—and powerful—as heat. Saunas and steam rooms aren’t just about relaxation. They’re about living longer, thinking clearer, and feeling more alive—complementing a more complete approach to recovery and wellness beyond traditional fitness or gym routines.

And now, science is catching up with what ancient cultures already knew.

That’s why we also honor the Temazcal—a traditional Mesoamerican sweat ritual that combines heat, steam, and intention. It’s not just a detox; it’s a reconnection with ancient wisdom and your inner clarity, integrated within a broader ecosystem of recovery, performance, and well-being.

The Sauna Study That Stunned the Science World

A groundbreaking 20-year study from the University of Eastern Finland tracked 2,300 middle-aged men. The results? Nothing short of remarkable:

🧖 Sauna 2–3 times/week = 24% lower risk of death
🔥 Sauna 4–7 times/week = 40% lower risk of death
⏱ 19+ minutes per session = 52% lower risk of cardiac death, compared to sessions under 11 minutes.

Yes, you read that right. Just sitting in a hot room regularly could be one of the simplest tools for long-term heart health—well beyond what most traditional fitness or gym routines typically consider.

The saunas in the study were no joke either—averaging 174°F. That kind of heat gets your heart rate up, improves circulation, and simulates the cardiovascular effects of exercise—making it a powerful complement to structured training and recovery.

And beyond the physical? The emotional benefits: deep rest, stress reduction, and shared moments of quiet connection.

While this was an observational study and didn’t include women, the correlation is strong—and compelling enough that some cardiologists are rethinking their stance on sauna use for heart patients and those engaged in regular training.

A Stronger Heart, Naturally

Regular sauna or steam use can:

🫀 Reduce blood pressure and boost heart function
💓 Lower risk of cardiovascular events by up to 63%
🧬 Improve arterial flexibility and reduce inflammation
🚶 Mirror the effects of moderate aerobic exercise—making it a powerful complement to structured training and recovery beyond traditional gym routines

Teva Tip: Join our post-sauna cardio sessions or integrate your sweat ritual within your training routine—combining it with breathwork or meditation to amplify both heart and mind benefits.

Heat Beyond the Heart

Heat doesn’t just work on your body—it works on your entire being, supporting recovery, performance, and overall well-being beyond traditional fitness or gym routines:

🧘 Relieves stress and enhances sleep
🫁 Improves lung function and breath capacity
🧠 Supports brain health and reduces dementia risk
🦴 Eases pain from arthritis and tension
🛡 Boosts immunity and resilience

Teva Tip: Our steam rooms are ideal for respiratory recovery and mental reset—an effective complement to your training routine. Add essential oils for an enhanced sensory experience.

The Science of the Sweat

Raising your core body temperature by just 1°C has been shown to activate powerful physiological shifts—making heat a valuable complement to structured training and recovery:

Stimulates circulation and enhances cardiovascular performance
Increases the production of heat shock proteins, supporting cellular repair
Triggers mild hormetic stress, building resilience over time
Supports immune function and inflammation modulation
Promotes deep relaxation by calming the nervous system

Even gentle heat, when used with presence and purpose, becomes a catalyst for vitality, clarity, and inner balance—extending benefits beyond traditional fitness or gym routines.

Heat, Safely

Most healthy people (and even stable heart patients) can benefit, especially when heat exposure is integrated thoughtfully within a broader wellness or training routine—but always consult your physician if:

You’ve had recent cardiac events or have unstable angina
You take medications like antihypertensives or nitroglycerin
You’re pregnant or sensitive to extreme heat

Teva Tip: Ask our team about best practices and contraindications. We’re here to guide every step of your wellness and recovery journey.

A Ritual of Renewal

For us, saunas, steam rooms, and Temazcal ceremonies are not just tools—they are sacred spaces. Places to slow down, reconnect, and let your body do what it was designed to do: heal—supporting recovery, balance, and overall well-being.

At Teva, you’re not just sweating. You’re releasing, rebalancing, and remembering what it means to feel alive—within a more complete approach to wellness beyond traditional fitness or gym routines.

Operations and Performance Manager

Daniel Peralta Delgado

Behind every great training experience is someone setting the standard. At TEVA, that person is Daniel.

Daniel leads Operations and Performance, bringing experience from prestigious fitness clubs across Colombia, Australia and Canada. He holds a master’s degree in Fitness and Health Promotion and has trained in strength, endurance, nutrition, sleep and leadership. He works closely with TEVA’s trainers to develop their skills and ensure members receive knowledgeable guidance shaped around their individual goals.

His understanding of the body is personal as well as professional. After an illness left him in bed for six months, Daniel had to rebuild his own strength. That experience changed how he sees fitness: what your body can do matters more than how it looks.

He has since completed six Ironman 70.3 races, eleven marathons and twenty-three half marathons. Daniel knows what it takes to pursue an ambitious goal, and he knows that progress depends on consistency, a thoughtful plan and the right balance between training and recovery.

TEVA members have direct access to Daniel’s expertise when they are considering a challenge such as an Ironman, marathon or HYROX. He can help them assess where they are now and develop a personalised performance strategy around their ability, schedule and goals. It is an opportunity to plan with someone who has lived the preparation, the setbacks and the finish lines himself.

You do not need to be an endurance athlete to benefit from his leadership. Whether your goal is to build strength, return to exercise or feel more capable in your body, Daniel helps ensure the team supporting you has the knowledge and care to help you move forward.

Physical Therapist

Amaya Mantilla

Amaya is a physical therapist specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Her expertise allows her to design highly personalized training programs for people with current injuries, a history of injuries, or physical limitations, helping them build strength without ignoring what their body needs.

For three years, Amaya was the “secret weapon” behind the most elite division of the Navy, making sure its members stayed in peak physical condition at all times. In an environment where the body must perform at the highest level, she combined injury prevention, rehabilitation, and physical preparation to keep them ready for any challenge.

Today she applies that same precision and attention to every client at TEVA. Amaya knows when to challenge the body, when to modify a movement, and how to build strength without letting an injury define the entire training experience.

Her sweet, gentle appearance can be deceiving. Behind it is a demanding, highly observant professional who will take care of you — but will also make you work.
